Hay Group joined with Avaya Inc., a Fortune 500 global leader in telecommunication systems with over 20,000 salaried and represented employees, to develop My Total Rewards - a web-based total rewards statement to enhance its employees' awareness of the value of their total compensation, work/life programs and other rewards.

The statement included a comprehensive section on retirement benefits as well as self-service modeling capabilities. Utilizing the company's intranet, links to paycheck stubs, Summary Plan Descriptions, HR policy guide and benefits life events helped develop an all inclusive employee self-service site that is updated on a quarterly basis.

As the site matured, My Total Rewards has been enhanced to include:

  • A recruiting tool to help prospective candidates understand the value of Avaya's total rewards program.
  • An administration site for generating log-in statistics, page usage statistics and targeted e-mails.
  • A mergers and acquisitions site to give newly acquired employees a preview of their total rewards package.

The goal was to provide a concise, easy-to-understand Total Reward Statement to all U.S.-based employees in four months. Working closely with the Hay Group team, Avaya was able to meet its goal and successfully launch My Total Rewards. Key success factors of My Total Rewards included:

  • Support of senior management
  • Strong up-front planning
  • An effective communication campaign

Recent statistics showed Avaya had reached more than 95% of its employees with My Total Rewards. Over 90% of those surveyed indicated the web site had increased their knowledge and awareness of their total rewards package.
